With many students moving on to A level from GCSE, they may be wondering how demanding these qualifications actually are. It’s commonly said that A level is a huge step up from GCSE and this is no lie. So, how long should you revise your A level subjects? Read on to find out more!

Why two months may not be enough time to revise

With A levels being so demanding, it’s recommended that students revise throughout the academic year rather than just trying to cram their revision in at the end of the year. You could also consider attending revision courses during half term such as a maths A Level revision course. Whilst two months might seem like a lot of time, the amount of content at A level is overwhelming for many students.

A level contains an extensive amount of content compared to GCSE, meaning that students have to work harder to learn and memorise the specification for each subject. Even with studying fewer subjects than at GCSE, A levels are so content-heavy that it’s often difficult for students to manage their time, which is one of the reasons why doing four A levels is so rare.

Therefore, with this in mind, students will be wanting to revise for as long as possible to secure the grade they want. Good grades don’t come easy at A level, so putting in as much work as possible will ensure you get the most out of these qualifications. Neglecting studies until the very end of the year can put students in a very dangerous position and it could sacrifice those all-important grades.

What you should be doing

Throughout the years at college, students may want to continuously be practising past papers, exam questions, online quizzes, and flashcards to get to grips with their subject. All this constant revising will help students get the specification for each of their subjects to stick inside their head.

Even doing fifteen minutes of practice a day could have a huge positive impact compared to not doing anything at all. A level is all about hard work, so if students aren’t prepared to do it, then they should prepare for worse results than what they could’ve potentially got. After all, it’s often said that hardworking students can get better grades than students who are more intelligent than them!

Why two months might be enough

In some cases, and despite not being recommended, two months could be enough to revise an A level. This really depends on the individual student and the individual subject. If a student is particularly intelligent and finds things easy to remember, two months could be enough for them to revise everything they need. Additionally, some subjects are easier than others for different students, meaning that less effort will be required in some.

Overall, students should aim to revise for a lot longer than two months just to ensure that they’re putting themselves in the best position possible for the exam. It is possible to revise A levels in two months, although this could be a risk and could depend on the capability of individuals.
