(a) Which train takes more than 2 hours to go from Birmingham to London?

• To find the train(s) that take more than 2 hours, we need to calculate the journey time for each train. Remember that 2 hours is equal to 120 minutes.
  • Train A: 08:09 – 06:35 = 1 hour and 34 minutes = 94 minutes
  • Train B: 08:39 – 07:00 = 1 hour and 39 minutes = 99 minutes
  • Train C: 08:48 – 07:15 = 1 hour and 33 minutes = 93 minutes
  • Train D: 09:04 – 07:30 = 1 hour and 34 minutes = 94 minutes
  • Train E: 09:59 – 07:45 = 2 hours and 14 minutes = 134 minutes
  • Train F: 09:39 – 08:00 = 1 hour and 39 minutes = 99 minutes
• Train E takes 134 minutes, which is more than 2 hours (120 minutes).

Answer (a): Train E

(b) Work out the number of minutes taken by train D to go from Birmingham to London.

• We already calculated this in part (a): Train D takes 1 hour and 34 minutes.
• Convert this to minutes: (1 hour * 60 minutes/hour) + 34 minutes = 60 + 34 = 94 minutes

Answer (b): 94 minutes
