How To Calculate Area and Volume of Shapes?

By by S. Mahandru, Head of Maths, Exam.tips

Area and volume describe how much space a shape covers or occupies — area for surfaces, volume for 3D objects.

Common Area Formulas:

Rectangle: A = l \times w

Triangle: A = \tfrac12 \, b \times h

Circle: A = \pi r^{2}

Common Volume Formulas:

Cube: V = l \times w \times h

Cuboid: V = l \times w \times h.

Cylinder: V = \pi r^2 h

Always use the correct units — cm² for area, cm³ for volume. Such skills are useful for design, building, or any measurement work.
