This course follows the structure of our A Level Maths Revision Course, covering pure maths, mechanics and statistics with focused exam preparation.
What Is Covered in the October Half Term Course?
Taking part in A Level Maths October Revision, students recap topics covered in year 12. They will also cover any year 13 topics. Sessions support all the main exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR and MEI. This allows every student to take part. Reinforcing key areas and preparing for mocks and final exams.
Here are a few topics that could be studied.
Primary Pure Maths Topics
Year 12 pure maths carries forward GCSE maths content. Such as algebra, geometry, sequences, and trigonometry. Students are also introduced to differentiation and integration.
These topics are the foundations of A Level Maths. Many students find certain topics challenging. Sketching curves, proof, binomial expansion, and indices are essential skills.
With a focus on detailed explanations, students gain a better understanding. This creates a strong foundation for year 13 A Level Maths.
Essential Statistics Topics
In year 12 statistics students meet sampling. Students learn about random, stratified, and quota methods. They will explore how these methods use data. Students will use histograms, cumulative frequency curves, and box plots to present data.
The course also looks at probability. Discussing the use of tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and independent events. Students will also meet Binomial Distribution and Hypothesis Testing. Understanding the difference between the null and alternative hypothesis is important. Knowing how to use significance level and p-values is also needed.
Mechanics Topics Covered
Mechanics in year 12 introduces kinematics. This looks at speed and acceleration. Students also look at graphs and how to use the equations of motion. Forces and Newton’s laws are also introduced. Mastering how to draw clear diagrams to perform calculations is an essential skill.
Other topics where Newton’s law applies include pulley systems and connected objects.
The skill of drawing clear diagrams can be a challenge. Knowing where and how to present forces can be challenging. With clear guidance, the correct steps are made to help build students’ confidence.
