Students across the country struggle to revise – so if you’re one of them, don’t worry! Take a look at the advice below to gain tips on how to study for GCSE chemistry. Chemistry can often be a challenging subject for many pupils, so it’s important to be as fully prepared for the exams as possible.

Practise, practise, practise!

To be prepared for your GCSE chemistry exams, you might want to consider practising as many papers as you can get your hands on.

These can usually be accessed via your exam board’s official website. Doing past papers can put students in a great position as they can give you a feel for what to expect in the exam.

Going through past papers can help highlight your weaker areas so you will know what to target when it comes to revising. Coupled with online past papers are the online mark schemes. With these, you can get a feel for what model answers look like and what the examiner wants to see from you, putting you in a strong position for answering questions in the real exam.

Mark schemes can also show you the correct answer to a question if you are unable to answer it yourself. This will help you revise if a similar question comes up in your exam. Past papers can also help you predict what topics will come up on your year’s exam paper, although don’t ignore other areas of revision just because of a prediction. Cover all areas since, in reality, anything on your specification could crop up!

Find your method

There are many different ways you can study for GCSE chemistry, so testing out different methods can be a great way to see which way is most effective for getting the content inside your brain.

You could try out revision flashcards, making notes, or making visual posters. You may also find working in small groups to be effective and motivational, whilst others only like to study alone with their textbook.

Alternatively, you could watch online educational videos, or take interactive online quizzes to test your knowledge. If you’re struggling to find a method, asking your teacher could also be useful. Teachers are full of knowledge and are there to help.

They can often offer great advice and point you in the direction of great resources that you may find quite handy. A online chemistry tutor could also aid you with this. Tutors are there to help you in this academic journey and are supposed to help you boost your grade.

Studying alongside a professional tutor could be helpful as they could keep you motivated, helping you target the areas you’re struggling with. There’re loads of options available out there, so make sure you test a few of them out to know what is most effective for you.
